Sampaguita is for divers that insist on an overall delightful experience, above and below the surface. The small-scale oceanfront dive resort of 16 traditionally styled bungalows, is nestled in a tropical oasis of calm and ease. Our lush garden is shadowed by gigantic palms, rustling in the marine breeze, lapped by crystal waters. You appreciate sea, nature, good cooking, diving and congenial company? This is your little heaven!
You'll find us in the Central Visayas. More precisely along the south western coast of Cebu Island (called South Sea Pearl), in Tongo Point, facing the island of Negros. This means, world-class diving begins right at your doorstep. Our small size allows us to offer you a highly personalized experience, so you can expect us to adapt to your wishes and needs as best we can. It's a friendly, relaxed and casual atmosphere here – the cute and cozy place to dive & refresh.
We at Sampaguita Resort are hosts from the bottom of our hearts. You've travelled far to fully unwind from day-to-day-commitments and to let pleasant experiences recharge you. Now, it's "youtime", so, just leave the rest to us!
Did you know? Sampaguita is the Philippine National Flower. The name is believed to come from the Filipino words "sumpakita", meaning "I promise you"... Not unlike the exchange of rings in wedding ceremonies, sampaguita garlands were exchanged by couples as a symbol for their love.
Inspired by this, we promise you our full attention and appreciation. It's your precious vacation time and it's our honour to have you over and treat you best we can!
Location. Location. Location! At Sampaguita you're overlooking the sparkling waters surrounding the Visayas Islands, facing the island of Negros.
The marine park of Pescador Island, the world-famous diving spot with its breathtaking open-top underwater cave "the Cathedral" and about 2500 species of fish is only a 10 – 12 minutes boat ride away. For its colour-boosting walls and the myriads of life forms found there, as well as for its amazingly huge gorgonians and soft coral trees, it is often referred to as a diver's real heaven.
While Pesacadorisland is by far the most renown dive spot, there are many more right in the vicinity of Sampaguita that will delight your heart. And so is our house reef, the Sampaguita Reef (also known as Tongo Point). It is ideal for free dives not included in the normal dive shop schedule, allowed only in buddy system. With its lush presence of marine fauna, it is specially delish for night dives at sunset.
See here for some examples.
The best period for a holiday runs from March through September; however, given Sampaguita's unique position that makes it sheltered by atmospheric disturbances and strong winds, the other months are nearly as good, and sunny days are the rule; even during the July-September rainy season in Moalboal weather is stable and it is exceptional to give up even only one diving session.
Usually, you'll be arriving via Cebu City, where the closest international airport is located. The car or bus ride to Sampaguita takes about 2.5 hours along the panoramic coastline. Sampaguita Resort is geographically placed 9 degrees north of the Equator, 123 degrees east of Greenwhich meridian. From Europe you can reach Cebu, Mactan International Airport (CEB), flying with the best Asian and European airlines: Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong, Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur, Qatar Airways via Doha, Singapore Airlines via Singapore, Air France, British Airways, China Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, Lufthansa and Thai Airways via Manila.
Arriving by car: Leaving Mactan Airport, you go through Cebu City, take a road crossing southwards Cebu Island, then skirt for about an hour the east coast. Subsequently, crossing the island ridge, you reach and skirt the west coast for another hour, via Carcar, Alcantara and Barili. Finally, you are in Moalboal, where you leave the main road and take a secondary road towards Panagsama beach. After a few hundred metres of country road, which is the only unpaved distance of all journey, you finally pass through the Sampaguita Resort main gate.
More an excursion rather than a transfer. The route from Mactan Airport to the Resort is not that long, about 100 km. However, it takes you about three short hours at slow speed. That's because you're crossing crowded villages full of color and life, where everything is happening in open air: walks to rice wiping, transport with rural carts to children play, processions to fairs and country markets. Allow yourself to enjoy the exotic journey through the island's rural province, untouched by organized tourism, genuine and unspoilt. Like this, you'll not only add quality time to your trip, but also several chances for taking photos or movies that will keep your memories alive.
Moalboal: is a town almost entirely surrounded by water, bordered to the west by the Tañon Strait. You'll see Negros island from the western shoreline. Moalboal is located 89 kilometres (55 mi) from Cebu City, about 2½ hours by bus or car. The reefs along the west coast are home to a great variety of marine life.
Pescador Island, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) off the coast, is the most popular dive spot. The structure of the reef that follows the entire coast line has made the place ideal for scuba-diving and snorkeling. Divers enjoy easy access to the reef since the drop off is shallow and close, but drops down to more than 40 metres (130 ft). Chances are good that you spot some enormous turtles who usually hang out here.
Cebu City, is known as "The Queen City of the South" and the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines, where the imprint of the Spanish and the Roman Catholic culture is evident. It has been one of the most developed provinces and the main center of commerce, trade, education and Industry.
Sampaguita is located south of China and Taiwan, north of Malayan Borneo and Sulawesi Islands, among the Southern China Sea, Sulu Sea, Celebes and Philippines Sea. It lies where the Indian and the Pacific Ocean meet, in the heart of the Philippines archipelago (made of 7107 islands known as Smile Islands) and Visayas Islands.
